ADM+S at Melbourne Design Week
Author Natalie Campbell & Loren Dela Cruz
Date 2 March 2022
ADM+S researchers will be hosting two workshops on Saturday 19 March as part of Melbourne Design Week 2022. The workshops will focus on the future capabilities of artificial intelligence in the areas of autonomous vehicles and digital health technology.
The first event, ‘HealthTech: Today and Tomorrow,’ is a creative workshop that will reimagine the future of healthtech in Australia hosted by ADM+S researchers Dr Ash Watson, Dr Vaughan Wozniak-O’Connor and Prof Deborah Lupton. Participants will experiment with sociological design methods that offer an alternative way of understanding and materialising the social and material contexts of health technology design and use, both in the present and into the future.
The second workshop, ‘Visions of the road ahead: Experimenting with Future Visions of Self-Driving Cars,’ will analyse speculative visions from pop culture and cinema to inspire new visions for automated mobilities in Australia. Multimedia practices and creative approaches will be taken to dissect the social, cultural, and political aspects of these proposed features. This event is led by ADM+S researchers in the People Research Program.
Melbourne Design Week (MDW) celebrates design in an annual 11-day program of talks, tours, exhibitions, launches, installations and workshops across Australia’s design capital. It is a platform for designers, educators, enthusiasts, thinkers and businesses to come together to share ideas, show and sell new work, and consider how design can be used as a force for good in an increasingly complex and precarious world. MDW is an initiative of the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, and delivered by the NGV.
