ANDREW ROBERTS

Prof Andrew Roberts is an Associate Investigator at the University of Melbourne node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making & Society (ADM+S).

Andrew Roberts is a graduate of the University of Nottingham (LLB – Law with American Law), the University of Cambridge (MPhil – Criminology), and the University of Amsterdam (PhD).

His doctoral thesis developed a republican theory of privacy.

He joined Melbourne Law School in 2011, having previously held positions at the University of Leeds (2003-2005) and Warwick University (2005-2011).

His research interests lie in privacy, political theory, and criminal justice.

He is the author of a monograph setting out a republican account of privacy, which will be published by Routledge in 2021.

He is also a co-author of Uniform Evidence, 3rd edn., (2019: OUP), and co-editor of a collection of essays on Australian Uniform Evidence Law, Critical Perspectives on the Uniform Evidence Law, (2017: Federation Press).

He has published a number of articles that explore the relationship between power and privacy, and the extent to which privacy is threatened and protected by criminal law and procedure.

Andrew has been a Visiting Senior Fellow in the School of Law at the University of New South Wales (2009), a visiting scholar in the Law School at City University London (2013), the Department of Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam (2013), and the School of Law at the University of Leeds (2017).

In 2016, he was a Senior Research Fellow in the Structural Transformations of Privacy project at Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main.
