Thesis Title
Ethnography of a DAO: An Empirical Look at Decentralized Governance

Research Description
Brooke’s research aims to empirically examine how Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) socially produce theories of governance and operationalize them into their digital infrastructures and algorithmic protocols. She is particularly interested in the extent to which emerging decentralized technologies replicate older forms of media to re-enforce power hierarchies and structural inequalities. Brooke hopes to contribute to MetaGov’s growing body of work to build a more robust understanding of blockchain governance as a whole.
