THE QUT DMRC FACEBOOK APP - PRIVACY POLICY
1. Introduction
The Queensland University Of Technology (QUT) Digital Media Research Centre (DMRC) Business App is a Facebook Developer application designed specifically for the purpose of assisting the DMRC with serving its stakeholders in a range of scenarios involving Facebook platform data. Where permissible by Facebook's terms of usage, the application collects and stores various data to fulfil its intended purpose.
2. What Is The Purpose Of This App
The QUT DMRC Business App serves the purpose of collecting only publicly available data, for the purpose of assisting various stakeholders with understanding their online presences on the Facebook social media platform.
3. How Do I Use The App
Usage of the QUT DMRC Business App may be provisioned by an open authentication request sent to you as a stakeholder of the application, and facilitated by Facebook's own authentication platform. Alternatively, where access of data collection pertaining to advanced operations of the Facebook Developer API is warranted, the app may not necessarily require an open authentication request. Beyond these specifications, the QUT DMRC Business App does not require any interaction from stakeholders as its primary purpose is one that involves the collection of publicly available online data.
4. What Information Do We Collect
The QUT DMRC Business App only collects publicly available data on the Facebook social media platform. This data is most often in relation to the specification of various online businesses that operate on Facebook, and that have disclosed their public profiles on the platform. The application may also collect information regarding said business' advertising practices, and relating insights obtained therefrom.
5. What Happens To The Information That We Collect
All data that the application collects remains confidential, and is stored on a secure cloud server database that is operated and managed by QUT. All stored data will also be encrypted to ensure data security. Data will be only accessible by teams involved in analyses serving the purpose of the app, within the organization. Data collected from this app may be used for research purposes. It is anticipated that data obtained through the app may be published and/or presented in a variety of forms. In any publication and/or presentation, information will be provided in such a way that no single individual can be identified, except with expressed permission.
6. What Are The Benefits And Risks Of Using This App
There are minimal risks associated with your usage of the QUT DMRC Business App.
These might include: inconvenience of having to agree to, and authenticate the app, technical issues during authentication of the app, or revelation of publicly identifiable Facebook business information. The first two risks are inherent to Facebook's authentication process for usage of the QUT DMRC Business App, while the last risk is only as tangible as the stakeholder's interpretation of their own online representation.
