Thesis Title
Visual analytic methods for exploring the algorithmic infrastructures of social media platforms

Research Description
Kunal’s research focuses on building information visualisation tools that enable digital media scholars to examine how visual social media platforms (like Instagram) are using automated decision making (ADM) systems to aid in their operations, such as content curation and information retrieval. He is working in the QUT Digital Media Research Centre (DMRC) supported through an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project: “Using Machine Vision to Explore Instagram’s Everyday Promotional Cultures”. His work seeks to help scholars understand how Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) systems used by social media platforms interact with everyday experiences of users on these platforms.
