MARGARET WILSON
Thesis Title
Sub Judice Contempt in the Current Communications Environment
Research Description
Margaret is interested in the effect of digital news materials on criminal jury trials.
For more than 200 years the law has deterred the media from disseminating information and opinions that might prejudice a juror in a particular case by raising the spectre of prosecution for sub judice contempt of court.
How should this law be applied to the various sorts of news materials institutional media post online, how they are disseminated and how they are accessed? In what ways should this law be changed to ensure its utility in the current environment?
