Assoc Prof Michael Richardson is an Associate Investigator at the University of New South Wales node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making & Society (ADM+S).
Michael he co-leads a project on the automation of public and shared space, and is an Associate Professor in Media at UNSW.
Michael’s transdisciplinary research examines affect, power, technology and violence in culture and war with an emphasis on witnessing and trauma. Michael recently held an ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award for a project on drones and witnessing, and is now working on the intersection of automation, military technologies, and climate crisis.
The author of academic books, journal articles, chapters, and essays, Michael often appears in the media to discuss drones, surveillance, and military technology. He is also the co-director of the UNSW Media Futures Hub and the Autonomous Media Lab.
