SILVIA MONTAÑA-NIÑO
Dr Silvia Montana-Nino is an Associate Investigator of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making & Society (ADM+S) from the University of Melbourne.
Silvia Montaña-Niño works as a Lecturer in Journalism at the Centre for Advancing Journalism, School of Communication and Culture, University of Melbourne. She was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Queensland University of Technology with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making & Society between 2021 and 2023.
She has had more than 15 years of experience as a journalist in Colombia’s printed outlets and digital magazines. Her research focuses on the impact of technology on journalism. During her doctoral studies, she analysed the editorial dynamics under the institutionalisation of digital metrics systems and platform algorithms in Australia. Currently, her research with the centre focuses on the automation, datafication and platformisation of global news outlets and fact-checking organisations and how these processes transform professional journalism practices, values and occupational ideology.
Silvia’s research contributes to the Generative Authenticity project.
