Gareth Downing
Dr Gareth Downing is an Affiliate of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society from the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN).
Dr Gareth Downing is a researcher and policy expert specialising in law and economics and regulatory design. His work explores the intersection of law, economics and institutional design, with a focus on how the economic drivers of asymmetric information inform regulation and the design of effective legal and institutional frameworks.
Dr Downing’s current research interests include competition, the regulation of communications and digital service markets and the design of institutional frameworks to support competitive and fair markets.
Dr Downing holds a BEc and LLB from Western Sydney University, a MALP from the University of Sydney and completed his PhD at the Australian National University. In addition, Dr Downing completed the European Master in Law and Economics program, as an Erasmus Mundus+ scholarship recipient and received degrees from the University of Vienna, Erasmus University Rotterdam and the University of Hamburg.
