ARC CoE Creative Communication Competition

1 June - 1 July

The ARC Centres of Excellence Creative Communication Competition brings together researchers and staff from nine ARC Centres of Excellence to translate research into accessible, engaging and visually compelling ways, while showcasing the extraordinary breadth of work across the Centres.

Who can enter? 

Current Centre members from a participating Centre, including PhD Students, Postdoctoral Researchers, Associate Investigators, Chief Investigators, Partner Investigators, professional and technical staff. Team entries are also welcome (please note prize money will be shared between team members). 

Competition brief 

Create an original piece that creatively communicates your own research, or the research of your lab or Centre. 

Entry categories 

There are six categories available for entry: 

  • Photography / microscopy 
  • Digital artwork 
  • Drawing / Painting / Sculpture
    (submitted as a photograph of the piece) 
  • Meme 
  • 1-minute video 
  • Graphic novel / comic / zine 

Key dates 

  • Entries open: 1 June 
  • Entries close: 31 July 
  • Judging & public voting: 1–14 August 
  • Winners announced: 17–22 August during National Science Week 

All entries will be displayed on our dedicated competition website, where the public will be able to view and vote for their favourites. 

Prizes 

Each category will have three prizes available: 

  • Judges’ 1st Prize: $400 
  • Judges’ 2nd Prize: $170 
  • People’s Choice Award: $150 

Judges will be looking for creativity, originality, clear research communication, and visual impact. 

Important rules 

  • Entries must not contain offensive or inappropriate content, including sexually explicit material, violence, extremism, hateful material, or false/misleading information. 
  • Generative AI may not be used for original content creation. AI tools may be used to assist with editing only. If AI tools are used, participants will be asked to declare which tool was used and how it was used. 
  • Entries must be original and must not include copyrighted or trademarked material. 
  • By submitting an entry, participants agree that their Centre may use the work in communications materials including merchandise, reports, websites and social media. Artists will retain original copyright and will always be credited.
