CONNAL PARSLEY

Connal Parsley is an Affiliate of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making & Society (ADM+S) from University of Kent.

Connal’s current research project is ‘The Future of Good Decisions: An Evolutionary Approach to Human-AI Government Administrative Decision-Making’. The project aims to identify emerging practices and value concepts for the design and evaluation of human-AI administrative decision systems in government, focusing on participatory co-design.

An interdisciplinary critical legal scholar, Connal works across academic disciplines and spheres of practice. His work draws on the philosophy of technology and media, critical AI studies, political and legal theory, and public law jurisprudence. His project involves

collaborations with creative practitioners, government and legal professionals, as well as multiple methods. He is currently exploring the use of prefigurative methods like Live Action Role Play (LARP) as a tool for system design and values exploration.

Connal’s work aims to reinterpret the deliberative tradition, in order to refresh the project of open democracy for an age of increasing reliance on decision automation.
