DR DAVID BEESLEY

Dr David Beesley is an Affiliate of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making & Society (ADM+S) from the University of Melbourne.

Dr David Beesley is a media professional, documentary film maker, and Media Production Studios Facility Manager, Faculty of Arts, University of Melbourne. David’s PhD, ‘Head in the Clouds: documenting the rise of personal drone culture’, was a project-based longitudinal ethnographic documentary looking at the significance of drone cultures in Melbourne, Australia.

David’s research areas include communication technologies and digital media studies, drones, drone cultures, swarms, ethnography, resilient hermeneutics and the changing role of the human in human machine teaming. His most recent publication is Swarm Hermeneutics in the open-access book Thinking Swarms (Editors S. Ng, J. Beaufort Scholz, & H. A. Abbass, (pp. 77-93). Springer Nature, 2025).
