Use of digital media and its impact on adoption of blockchain technology: Examining transnational remittances among African immigrants in Australia

Research Description
Drawing on African immigrant experiences in Western Sydney, the PhD will explore in-depth their experiences in Australia, and their families’ experiences in Africa, exploring the sites and spaces that situate the uses of these digital technologies. Deploying ethnographic methods, I will spend time with migrants across Western Sydney and their families in Africa to find out how they use digital media, and in particular, with a focus on the adoption of blockchain technology among African immigrants in Australia. That is, this study will focus on lived experiences in Australia and abroad to arrive at a rich and nuanced understanding of the phenomenon with specific focus on the Western Sydney area.
