MATHIAS-FELIPE DE-LIMA-SANTOS

Dr Mathias-Felipe de-Lima-Santos is an Affiliate of the the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making & Society (ADM+S) from UNSW.

Dr Mathias-Felipe de-Lima-Santos is a scholar and practitioner operating at the nexus of media, technology, and society. His work examines the social implications of AI and platform governance, with a specialized focus on media innovation within the Global South. Currently based at UNSW Sydney, Mathias-Felipe integrates applied computation with critical inquiry to explore how technological shifts reshape online social networks and public-interest communication.

Beyond this role, he is affiliate to the Digital Media and Society Observatory (DMSO) at the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) and the POLCOM-GRP at Pompeu Fabra University. In 2024, The Australian and the Australian Academy of the Humanities named him a rising star in Communication and Cultural Studies. As a leading voice in his field, he is the co-editor of Journalism, Data and Technology in Latin America and the forthcoming two-volume collection Fact-Checking in the Global South (Palgrave Macmillan). He also serves as an Associate Editor for the journal Journalism Practice.
