Thesis Title
How to Blow Up a Data Centre
Research Description
Data centres are a hot topic. Not only is their reliance on fossil fuels contributing to the heating of our planet, but data farms themselves are also a colossal source of heat, requiring billions of litres of water and troves of energy to cool down their computers. Also notoriously secretive, data centres give critics and scholars little information to worth with regarding their internal processes. This project will examine what it means to do critical work on data infrastructures on a heating planet, and how to make sense of a planetary system which is as obfuscated as it is ubiquitous. In other words, it will explore how to blow up a data centre.
