WEINAN YUAN

Weinan Yuan is a veteran cinematographer, a keen media sociologist, as well as a seasoned observer and practitioner in the field of technology. He has also served as an organizer for international academic events, such as the UN Internet Governance Forum, focusing on digital health and technology regulation.

Graduating from the University of Liverpool with a Master’s degree in Media and Communication, Mr. Yuan possesses rich practical experience in the media and tech domain. He has been involved in the production and promotion of several film projects such as Dragon Nest: Warriors’ Dawn, Dragon Blade, Red Amnesia and Good People, as well as served as a tech advisor for several art exhibitions.

Additionally, he is an instructing mentor for competitions like the China Daily News Campus Awards. Mr. Yuan’s research interests span across cinematography, disconnection studies, digital well-being and artificial intelligence.

AI-Driven Social Credit System as Ambiguous Arenas: Examining Digital Disconnection Practices and Perceptions in China

Research Description
The proposed research explores how individuals in China practice digital disconnection within the context of the AI-driven social credit system. It investigates the motivations behind disconnection, its impact on social credit scores, and the coping strategies used by individuals.

Using a mixed-methods approach—including literature review, surveys, interviews, and a longitudinal digital diary study—the research aims to provide insights into digital disconnection in China and its implications for policy and AI governance.
