DR ZAFARYAB RASOOL

Dr Zafaryab Rasool is a Research Fellow in Generative AI at the Swinburne University node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making & Society (ADM+S).

His research focuses on evaluating and making Large Language models (LLMs) and their applications more effective, trustworthy and usable in real-world settings such as diverse domains and user communities.

Over the past three years, he has primarily worked on applied research in Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), contributing to several research papers including Evaluating LLMs on document-based QA: Exact answer selection and numerical extraction using CogTale dataset, LLMs for Test Input Generation for Semantic Applications and RAGProbe: Breaking RAG Pipelines with Evaluation Scenarios.

Currently, he contributes to the Critical Capabilities for Inclusive AI project at ADM+S, where he is investigating how to design GenAI systems that are not only effective but also inclusive, transparent and aligned with emerging AI governance principles.

With a background in unsupervised learning and deep experience in clustering and large-scale data analysis, Zafaryab also brings a strong analytical foundation. In addition, he has led the development of a data-driven health system, working at the intersection of technical design, stakeholder priorities, and real-world system delivery. Prior to academia, he worked in the tech industry as a Software Engineer.
