On Tuesday 2 December, ADM+S was delighted to host a group of researchers from the Hong Kong Baptist University.
Professor Daniel Lai, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at HKBU, along with Professor Kaxton Siu and Faculty Manager Alice Wong, met with Centre Director Distinguished Professor Julian Thomas, Chief Investigator Professor Haiqing Yu, and Postdoctoral Research Fellow Dr Jiaxi Hou, to gain a deeper understanding of the Centre’s research program and discuss potential collaborations and the exchange of ideas.
The HKBU researchers were particularly interested in two ADM+S research projects: Mapping the Digital Gap and Language and Cultural Diversity in ADM – and how these projects are contributing to the development of knowledge and strategies for responsible, ethical, and inclusive automated decision-making.
The group also toured the world-class ADM+S offices at RMIT University to see first-hand how our ARC investigators, postdoctoral researchers, students and professional staff from across the Centre’s university nodes are working together in an interdisciplinary, multi-institutional environment to tackle some of the biggest challenges posed by the implementation of automated decision-making and artificial intelligence systems.
Centre Director Distinguished Professor Julian Thomas said, ”’it was a pleasure hosting Professors Daniel Lai, Kaxton Siu and Manager Alice Wong at the ADM+S Centre.”
“ We are hoping to extend the relationship with HKBU via a range of activities such as student placements, summer schools, and other research collaborations.”
The ADM+S Centre thanks ADM+S Executive Officer Julie Stuart and HKBU Manager Alice Wong for their support and coordination of the visit.
