Join the Slack Channel
You will receive an invitaiton to join the Slack channel #event-2024-hackathon-public-service-news-algorithms. We encourage you to use this channel before the event to introduce yourself to the other participants and hackathon mentors.
WHAT TO BRING
Please bring your laptop and charger. If you need to borrow a laptop please contact us before the event at adms@rmit.edu.au and we can arrange a loan laptop for you.
Whiteboards, butchers’ paper, pens and sticky notes will be provided onsite as well as additional power boards.

PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILMING ONSITE
Please note that ADM+S operations team members will be on site across the two hackathon days to record footage and take images of the hackathon in progress. These images and clips will be for ADM+S use only, and may be included on our website, socials, annual report or newsletters. If you do not wish for your photograph to be taken (or filmed), please let Sally Storey know in advance of the hackathon.

Policies & Procedures
COVID SAFETY
Attendees are reminded not to attend the hackathon if:
They are feeling unwell and displaying COVID-19 symptoms (loss or change in sense of smell or taste, fever, chills or sweats, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath and runny nose), are a household contact with a person with COVID-19 (with a positive test) within the last 7 days.
If you become unwell
If you are feeling unwell, please do not attend this event in-person – instead, stay home, seek medical advice and consider getting a COVID-19 test. COVID-19 symptoms are listed on the Victorian Government website.
Physical Distancing
There is no density quotient for areas not accessible to the public. Patrons are no longer required to be vaccinated or show proof of vaccination status.
Ventilation
The air conditioning system is set to maintain airflow constantly. In addition: The air conditioning system is regularly inspected and maintained. Temperature of 21°C +/- 4°C maintained throughout building
Face Masks
The wearing of face coverings is not mandatory however is strongly recommended whilst indoors or in crowded settings. ADM+S are supplying face masks for this event. Please see staff if you would like one.
Hand Sanitiser
Hand sanitiser will be available onsite at all venues across the hackathon.
Travel
If you are travelling to the event, please consider your own safety and consider wearing an N95/P2 mask at airports and during airplane travel and in shared spaces such as lifts, vehicles, taxis, buses and other ground travel. You may wish to request in advance that windows be at least partly open on both sides of vehicles prior to arrival, the driver be in a mask, and vehicle air-conditioning set to fresh air intake.

By participating in this hackathon, you agree to abide by the ADM+S Code of Conduct.
Collaborate kindly, exercise your best ethical and professional judgement, and treat others with respect. We welcome the participation of all attendees and are committed to being an inclusive and culturally safe environment. We encourage the use of inclusive language, making space for others to speak and ask questions, and showing respect for different viewpoints. We appreciate and celebrate that participants will bring different kinds of knowledge and expertise to this event.
Please note that this event focuses on sensitive issues of discrimination and bias, including those related to gender, Indigeneity, racism, colonialism, disability and politics, that may be triggering for some individuals. While discriminatory content may be an object of analysis during this event, we do not tolerate discrimination, bullying, harassment or exclusionary behaviour in any form. This includes offensive comments, deliberate intimidation, violence or threats of violence, wilful disruption, inappropriate physical contact, inappropriate use of sexualised content, and unwelcome sexual advances.
If you are subject to or notice any behaviours that go against this Code of Conduct, please contact a member of staff immediately. If any participant engages in harassing behaviours, the organisers may take any action they deem appropriate. This includes warning the offender and expelling them from the hackathon.
HACKATHON OUTCOMES RE-USE POLICY
By participating in the hackathon, you also agree to the below terms about re-use of the hackathon material.
Participants retain intellectual property ownership of the designs they produced through their participation in the hackathon, along with their co-creators.
Participants will be invited to submit their ideas, designs, concepts, or codes created during the hackathon to be showcased on the ADM+S website and to be included in a subsequent report for the APO (Analysis & Policy Observatory). The website and APO report will include the name of each project and the names of the participants involved in creating it. These materials will be provided under a Creative Commons licence that permits others to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon these ideas, as long as the participants are credited as the original creators.
You are free to build on the ideas generated collectively by your team or by other teams, on condition that you acknowledge and credit by name all members of the team and reference the 2024 ADM+S Hackathon.
The webpage hosting team presentations, summary and name will include a citation that you can use as a reference for this.
Please note that we will only share your materials if all participants on your team agree to this.
