The Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Communication Association (AANZCA) 2024 conference took place at RMIT University on 25-28 November, with a jam-packed program featuring a diverse display of ADM+S research.

AANZCA is a premier academic association that brings together researchers, students, and teachers from an array of communication disciplines to promote scholarship, inform social policy, and encourage progress in the broad field of media and communications.

ADM+S Associate Investigator James Meese was the organiser of the 2024 conference, held at RMIT University.

“This was a fantastic opportunity to share all of the wonderful work conducted by ADM+S researchers with the wider media and communication discipline.

“It was also great to see our ADM+S community contribute to the running of the event by chairing sessions, and leading insightful panels,” he said.

The theme for the 2024 conference was ‘Pause’, inviting attendees to consider the benefits of pausing during moments of global crisis and disciplinary chance.

The Call for Papers preceding the event invited submissions addressing the conceptualisation of a ‘pause’ in relation to media consumption and production, historic or contemporary junctures in media, communications or relevant sub-fields, the impact of GenAI tools in professional communication, creative practice and everyday digital cultures, findings, outcomes or reflections from activist, advocacy, social change and community-based research projects and their stakeholders, and more.
