This page includes an overview of the ADM+S Research Training program that supports higher-degree research candidates and early-career researchers at ADM+S. To explore our short courses and access public learning resources visit the ADM+S resources page.

The ADM+S Research Training Program is dedicated to developing skilled researchers who can effectively address the cross-disciplinary challenges of next-generation automation. The program is designed to support higher-degree research candidates and early-career researchers (ECRs), providing opportunities for career development that are closely aligned with our Research Programs and Focus Areas.

WELCOME TO THE ADM+S RESEARCH TRAINING PROGRAM

The ADM+S Research Training Program is designed with continuous, active industry engagement and international knowledge exchange in mind, helping to deliver on the Centre’s outcomes, impacts and linkages, as well as to prepare the next generation of researchers to make world-leading contributions in an increasingly engaged and transdisciplinary research environment.

Key Research Training activities include the annual ADM+S Summer School and Hackathon, monthly workshops, masterclasses, and intensive bootcamps, HDR and ECR-led symposia, mentoring, internal funding support for HDRs and ECRs, research visits and placements with ADM+S Partner Organisations and collaborators (domestic and international) and community building activities across city hubs.

The Research Training Program publishes a quarterly newsletter for all ADM+S members, which highlights upcoming events, workshops, and opportunities. For more information or if you’re interested in contributing to the Research Training Program, please reach out to Sally Storey, Manager of Research Training and Development.

ADM+S CENTRE INTERNAL FUNDING FOR HDRs and ECRs

The ADM+S Research Training Program is accepting applications across several schemes. Applications are welcome on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted for 2025. Links to the online application forms in Cle(v)er are listed in the HDR and ECR Funding Guidelines. If you have any questions or wish to discuss any ideas please contact the Manager, Research Training and Development Sally Storey.

2025 HDR and ECR Funding Guidelines

Research Visits and Placements
ADM+S is pleased to offer funding for Centre HDRs and ECRs to support research visits or placements to domestic Centre Partner Organisations and collaborators, industry organisations or Government departments.
Activities must have clear impact and multiple outputs within the specified time frame. (Please refer to the ADM+S Research Translation and Impact Strategy). Priority will be given to applicants applying to undertake their research visit in 2025. Successful applicants may be awarded up to a maximum of $2,500 (students) and $5,000 (ECRs and RFs). We will prioritise applicants that can demonstrate matched funding from either ADM+S node cash, other University cash, or other external funding sources. Awarded funds can be used towards travel costs (airfares, accommodation, and ground transportation), or other agreed costs to assist in your visit. Per diem payments or visa fees are not eligible.

If you are interested in participating in a research visit or placement with an ADM+S Partner Organisation or collaborator but don’t know how to go about organising, please contact Sally Storey to help you get this up and running.

Symposiums and Workshops
A limited amount of funding will be made available to support both HDR and ECR led symposiums and workshops in 2025.
Eligible expenses for in-person delivery include: catering, venue hire, honorariums and ground transport (for presenters), capped at $1,000. Eligible expenses for online delivery include: honorariums (for presenters), capped at $500. Applicants must show how they are integrating ADM+S students and researchers in the program delivery and audience participation, and all in-person symposiums and workshops must consider a hybrid delivery. ADM+S Research Training can provide support to organisers through online/ tech support (for online delivery), promotion of your event and registration process.

City Hub and Community Building
To encourage community building amongst our HDR and ECR cohort, we have made available $300 per city hub (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane), per quarter, to contribute to social activities bringing our researchers together.
Eligible expenses for social activities include: venue hire, catering, and activities that require tickets/booking fees for participation. Sally Storey can connect you in with your fellow city students and ECRs if you would like to organise an event, and can work with you on promotion, registration process and payment of approved expenses.
